The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership By John C. Maxwell

1: The Lid

Leadership ability determines a person's level of effectiveness

2: The Influence

The true measure of leadership is influence -- nothing more, nothing less

3. Process

Leadership develops daily, not in a Day

4. Navigation

Anyone can steer the ship, but leader charts the course

5. Addition

Leaders add value by serving others

6. Solid ground

Trust is the foundation of leadership

7.Respect

People naturally follow leaders stronger than themselves

8.Intuition

11. the law of Inner circle

A leader's potential is determined by those closed to him

Ella Wheeler Wilcox

Two Kinds of People

There are two kinds of people on earth today,
Just two kinds of people, no more, I say,
Not the good and the bad, for it is well understood
The good are half bad and the bad are half good.

Not the happy and sad, for the swift flying years
Bring each man his laughter and each man his tears.
Not the rich and the poor, for to count a man's wealth
You must first know the state of his conscience and health.

Not the humble and proud, for in life's busy span
Who puts on vain airs is not counted a man.
No! The two kinds of people on earth I mean
Are the people who lift, and the people who lean.

Wherever you go you will find the world's masses
Are ever divided in just these two classes.
And, strangely enough, you will find, too, I wean,
There is only one lifter for twenty who lean.

This one question I ask. Are you easing the load
Of overtaxed lifters who toil down the road?
Or are you a leaner who lets others bear
Your portion of worry and labor and care?

Look only for lifters for your inner circle

As iron sharpens iron, friends sharpen the minds of each other 《Proverbs》 27:17

Chapter 13:
The law of the picture

Mission provides purpose--answering the question, Why?

Vision provides a picture--answering the question, What?

Strategy provides a plan--answering the question, How?

No written word

nor spoken plea

Can teach our youth

what they should be

Nor all the book

on all the shelves

It's what the teachers

are themselves

Chapter 14 The law of buy-in

People buy into the leader, then the vision

The leader finds the dream and then the people. The people find the leader and then the dream.

People want to go along with people they get along with

People don't at first follow worthy cause. They follow worthy leaders who promote causes they can believe in.

Every message that people receive is filtered through the messenger who delivers it.

You are the message

Chapter 17

There are many things that will catch my eye, but there are only a few things that will catch my heart.

Chapter 19 The law of timing

There comes a special moment in everyone's life, a moment for which that person was born. That sepecial opportunity, when he seizes it, will fulfill his mission--a mission for which he is uniquely qualified. In that moment, he finds greatness . It is his finest hour. -- Winston Churchill

Chapter 20The law of Explosive growth

To add growth, lead followers--

To multiply, lead leaders

Leaders who attract followers ... Need to be needed
Leaders who develop leaders ... Wanted to be succeeded

Leaders who attract followers ... Develop the bottom 20%
Leaders who develop leaders ... Develop the top 20%

Leaders who attract followers ... Focus on weakness20%
Leaders who develop leaders ... Focus on strengths 20%

Leaders who attract followers ... treat everyone the same
Leaders who develop leaders ... treat individual differently

Leaders who attract followers ... Spend time with others
Leaders who develop leaders ... invest time in others

Leaders who attract followers ... grow by addition
Leaders who develop leaders ... grow by multiplication

Leaders who attract followers ... Impact only people they touch
Leaders who develop leaders ... Impact people beyond their reach

leader are like eagles--they don't flock

Chapter 21 The law of Legacy

most people simply accept their lives---they don't lead them

success is not measured by what you're leaving to, but what you are leaving behind.

A legacy is created only when a person puts his organization into the position to do great things without him.

A leader's lasting value is measured by succession.
